In October last year, a criminal case was initiated against Pavel Shekhtman under Part 1 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (actions aimed at inciting hatred or enmity committed publicly or using the media or on the Internet), the maximum punishment for which is four years in prison . On October 8, 2014, the Kuntsevsky District Court chose Shekhtman's recognizance not to leave as a preventive measure, refusing to arrest the activist by the investigation.

Yesterday Shekhtman was taken away from the house by the police, as reported by his neighbors. After that, neither his friends nor his lawyer could find his whereabouts. During the whole day of February 11, the lawyer had no information about Shekhtman.

According to Elena Romanova's lawyer, the investigator told her that Shekhtman was with him on February 11, and on February 12 he should come back to him. According to the investigator, it turns out that Shekhtman left him with his own feet, but for some reason the investigator claims that Shekhtman is under house arrest.
