When the main awards were awarded in the Berlinal Palace, I watched a documentary about Fassbord in the next cinema. The first scene: the Berlin festival of 1969, the audience is booing "Love is colder than death", and the director who goes on stage after the session is met with curses. It’s a pity Fassbinder, but it is also a pity that the former Das Kleine Chaos disappeared: this year I definitely predicted a rewards long before the end of the festival. The old -timers of Berlinale know that the best section of the program is “Forum”, all living things are hidden there, and the most out of twenty films that I noted did not participate in the competition, although many could well have been there.
1. Le Dos Rouge , director Antoine Barro
Everything in the film "Red Back" is unsteady and bifurcated, as if in a split mirror. Director Bertrand Bonello plays like himself, but this is not quite he. His hero, also a film director, who, according to a random coincidence, is Bertrand, looking for an image of an ideal monster in art galleries, but Baltyus, Dore and Miro do not satisfy him. Only in the photo of a young man in a bra does he find something impressive and forces a melancholy journalist to shave his chest and imitate a scene captured by Diana Arbus. The mysterious woman-art woman helps Bertrand, capable of seeing the monsters everywhere, but she also bifurcates, bringing the director to be confused. I do not like Bonello's films at all, but Antoine Barro collected the topics that captivate his friend (hermaphroditism, etc.), and, having shuffled them, made an unimportant movie about the fields of uncertainty, where the wheat of art is collapsed. Why is the film called "Red Back"? Yes, because in search of painted monsters, Bertrand himself turns into a monster.
2. The Forbidden Room , directors Guy Maddin and Evan Johnson
If my will, I would give all the awards of Berlinal to the “forbidden room” Guy Maddin, who reconstructed the plots of lost dumb paintings. In a sinking submarine in an incomprehensible way, the lumberjacks, covered in the leaves of the lumberjack, which suffer from amnesia, the flower man Margot, which was imprisoned in the cave, the gang "Red Wolves", makes its way. Poor Margot-Now the devout islanders should sacrifice it, throwing a volcano to the burlo, but a gloomy lawyer woman who suffered a plane crash comes to the rescue. Geraldin Chaplin depicts a woman with a whip, and Udo Cyrus is a footman who is killed, baldly accusing Chihuahua of theft. A huge queue lined up for this film, the thirsty surrounded four floors of the Cubix cinema on Alexanderplas. I suspect that the people were no less than once at the premiere of Metropolis. But what is amazing: the hall and the lumberjacks looked at the fierce with fierce with seriousness, I had to giggle timidly into a fist, although this is one of the best comedies in the world, and at the same time a film about the birth of a movie from dream dreams.
3. Fassbinder - Lieben Ohne Zu Fordern , director Christian Braud Tomben
The Dane Christian Braud Thomsen saw “Love is colder than death” on Berlinal in 1969 (when evil spectators froze the picture and fucked the director), was delighted and made friends with Fassbinder. Thomsen admits that he hated German - the speech of the Nazis who conquered Denmark, and discovered his beauty only thanks to the films of Fassbinder, especially Effi Brid. For 13 years of acquaintance, he recorded several interviews with the director - including one rather terrible, at the Cannes festival: Fassborder is drunk, his eyes swam, he rants, Brench with ice floes with whiskey, and looks like a corpse. Thomsen says that 30 years did not dare to watch this film. In his film, he is trying to decipher the character of a friend from Freudian positions - for example, to explain his actions with an Oedipus complex: Fassbinder's father left his family, and the director seemed to try to win his mother (she played in his films) and find a new father - for example, in the person of Douglas Sirka, whom he invited his mother to prepare the prostitskovo darling. One of the chapters of the film is dedicated to Sadomasochism of Fassbinder, who in every possible way erased his lovers and lovers: actor Armin Mayer committed suicide without receiving an invitation to the director’s birthday, and Irmm Hermann tells how, after the next scandal, he swallowed a sleeping pill, writing lipstick on the table recognition of love. According to Tomsen, Fassborder wanted to create a new family from the actors, but then he decided that the world is so insane that it remains only to invent his unique version of madness and die.
4. Der Letzte Sommer Der Reichen , director Peter Kern
Peter Kern starred at Fassbinder, Zibergberg and Daniel Schmid, and then he himself became a director. Three years ago, Veronika Franz (wife of Ulrich Zaydlya) made a documentary about his life : Kern was divided naked in front of the camera, and the sight is impressive: the poor fellow was so fat that the stomach hangs to the floor. The heroine of his new comedy "The Last Summer of the Rich" is a rich lesbian-sadomazoist, passionately in love with a charming nun who patronizes her Nazi grandfather. A sea of blood in the finale! Is it a parody of the "bitter tears of Petra von Kant"?
5. Gone with the Bullets , director Jiang Wen
Here is a strange story: a luxurious large -budget film "Safeed by Bullets", which in China enjoys a fairly success, in Berlin I did not like almost nobody and received awards, although it is quite worthy of prizes for the scenario and operational work. The murder of the winner of the beauty contest for women of easy behavior, the arrest and execution of the villain were the plot of the first Chinese film "Yan Zhuishen". The history of the birth of a movie from the criminal drama Jiang Wen transferred to the world of dreams - possibly opium, since the atrocity was committed under the influence of the drug. The film is sweet, like a wedding cake, and fast as a bullet.
6. Knight of Cups , director Terrence Malik
Terrence Malik flooded the inexhaustible second wind and already shot three experimental and impending paintings on ontological issues. I really like the “Tree of Life” and “to the Miracle”, but I will not dare to call them perfect, since there were failures with casting (a nightmare Sean Penn, sticking out like a rusty nail from the “tree”) and the overlapping of clerical demagogy. In the "Knight of Cups" there are more errors than luck. The wooden Christian Bale, similar to a revived advertisement for shaving cream, does not disappear from the frame, and an edifying sunbringing voice pours on the viewer such a niagar of pompous banalities that the ears are hiding. The picture is still luxurious, but too much like the shooting for GQ or Men's Health. Just now in Berlin there is an exhibition of Mario Testino, and his pictures seem to be shots from the "Knight of Cups". And what does Casanova from Los Angeles have to do with this story of the Tarot cards, which gave the names to both the film and its chapters? I did not like the "Knight of the Cups", and yet I almost have no doubt that this is the only film from the 2015 Berlinal contest that will remain in the history of the movie.
7. El Club , director Pablo Larrain
There was no doubt that this film would receive one of the main awards, and in fact the jury got the Grand Prix of the jury. Larrain is the author of the famous trilogy about the dictatorship of Pinochet. The characters of the "Club" are the Catholic priests prohibited in the ministry, who were involved in various crimes (usually pedophilia), and now the authorities hid them in a provincial shelter. One of them ends with him, and the meticulous church investigator begins to pry old secrets. Everything is good in this film about repentance and repentance, only one scenario cliche annoys me: why, if a dog appears in the drams of this type, it must certainly die?
8. El Botón de Nácar , director Patricio Gusman
Another Chilean competitive film, which also received a "silver bear", and his director also at one time shot a trilogy about the dictatorship of Pinochet. The “mother-of-pearl button” begins as a typical television film for Discovery about the meaning of water in the life of the Patagonia Aboriginal people, but then, thanks to the same button, a completely different story arises-about the Zlodea state and accidentally surviving witnesses of its atrocities. Darren Aronofsky gave this film a reward for the best script and did the right thing.
9. Exotica, Erotica, ETC , director of the Gospel Cranioti
Despite the nightmare name, this is a very interesting film. Greek woman of the Kranioti Gospel is obsessed with the sea and sailors. Obsessed to such an extent that for the sake of filming for nine years she swam in dry loads, working in the kitchen, and also asked the priestesses of love working in port brips. Her main character Chilika Sandy (Chile again!), Now gone on a well -deserved rest, adored the Greek sailors, who, like terrorists, left a bomb filled with love in every port. In January, the Rotterdam festival showed an equally beautiful film about the transloads "Transatlantika". I would like to run out of the cinema, go sail and never return.
10. Rabo de Peixe , directors Joachim Pinta and Nuno Leonel
Joachim Pint two years ago shot an amazing autobiographical film "What? Remind Me?" Pintu is seriously ill - HIV and hepatitis C, and it was an extremely frank story about the fight against the disease. Now Pintu and his partner Nuno Leonel have gathered their videos made in 1999-2001 on the Azores. Rabo de Pixe - "fish tail", the village where fishermen live; The directors became friends with the handsome man Pedro, his twin brother and their friends. The Azore islands lost in the ocean are beautiful, fishermen are handsome, to look at their catch any or more expensive-Divine-Land-Land. But the film turned out to be not as interesting as “what now?”, Because it is half -truth - the directors are undoubtedly in love with Pedro and his comrades, but did not dare to tell about this reprehensible hobby. It turned out an almost erotic film without erotica, and this is boring. The Gospel of Kranioti told her ocean-brothel story much more convincing.
11. Superwelt , director Karl Markovich
The provincial cashier opens the secret signs in the roar of the washing machine, signs on the wall of the refrigerator, the cod of the kitchen timer. There is no doubt: God directly speaks with her. Why did he choose her? The ways of the Lord are inaccessible. "SuperMir" looks like the films of Ulrich Zaydel, but what's the evil in this?
12. Eisenstein in Guanajuato , director Peter Greenway
I was very hoping that this film would catch some bear, so that Medinsky and other crops would be more difficult to ban his Russian rental. Peter Grinway wants to make another film about Sergey Eisenstein, and the script did not like in Moscow: the main director of Soviet cinema is depicted homosexual, how is it? Greenway believes that in 1931, when Eisenstein arrived in Guanahuato to shoot his Mexican film, he was a virgin, but this omission was corrected by a gangster -like native named Palomino Caedo. Exactly in the middle (the director emphasizes that the film is symmetrical) placed a long scene on the verge of gay porno, and, according to Greenaway, she shines like the main diamond in the crown. Once Nikolai Gumilev, welcoming Sergei Neldichen in the "Workshop of Poets" said that in his person a stupidity enters into Russian poetry, which has the same right to representation as everything else. Why did I remember these words of Gumilyov when I watched Eisenstein in Guanahuato?
13. Neun Leben Hat Die Katze , director Ula Stepokl
Absolutely all films that appeared in 1968 are remarkable, even third -stage. Ula Shtokl took her first picture "The cat has nine lives" when she was still a student of a film school. The premiere took place at the film festival in Mannheim, but the prizes were not presented then: it was decided to transfer all the money for the needs of Viet Kong. This is nothing-the Cannes festival in that revolutionary year was generally ripped off, and the festival in Acapulco ended with the battle from the Fando and Fox film. The "cat" was shot in a college (technical head for the poor), the film was considered lost at one time, then found, and now the film was restored in all its multicolor splendor. It is considered the first feminist ribbon in the history of Germany. Despite the fact that the "cat", to put it mildly, is not free from the influences of Ans Vard, Vera Hitilova and Godard, from other people's products, Shtokl managed to cook wonderful porridge. A daring film that has not lost the charm of youth, although he will soon turn 50.
14. Sueñan los Androides , director Ion de Sos
One of those films that appear at one or two festivals and disappear without a trace-first of all, due to the "average" format (60 minutes). And it is a pity: “Android dream” is in every way the original picture of a serial killer who wants to acquire an expensive sheep. Well, yes, androids and sheep: Ion de Sosa, of course, was inspired by Philip K. Dick's book.
15. The Performer , directors of Machi Sobischansky and Lukash Rondud
The Polish artist-activist Oscar Davitsky is obsessed with suicidal thoughts. Almost all of his performances are associated with self -destruction. He jumped like a molten silver (one of the types of savage medieval execution) in the mouth in a open grave and wants to fill in his mouth to die, creating a beautiful sculpture in his throat. The film ends with a message that Davitsky died in 2014, but this is also a performance, Davitsky was alive and represented the "performer" on Berlinal. A funny contrast between the cinema image of the masculine burner of life and the Davitsky himself - a clamped intellectual with glasses.
16. under electric clouds , director Alexei German
25 years ago, the intelligentsia dreamed that Russia would change and become a free European country. I myself hoped for it, although I quickly realized that nothing like this would happen. The skyscraper of the Russian dream is not completed, the owner of the site died, someone wants to demolish the building, someone offers to change the project and put a spire or dome on it. The time in Russia is cyclical, now stagnation, but a new turn to freedom is inevitable, and then the construction will resume - Alexei German is sure. The operators of the film received a Berlin bear for his contribution to cinema.
17. Geroi pioneers , director Natalya Kudryashova
It is surprising that young people who grew up in free Russia, with such enthusiasm, responded to the Kremlin attempts to restore the Soviet world. The material for thought on this topic can be gleaned in the film by Natalia Kudryashova: in 1987, when it began, but restructuring was not yet completely unfolded, the characters of this film were October and were preparing to join the pioneers. From neurosis received at that time, it is not possible to get rid of it.
18. Counting , director Jam Cohen
This film seems to be unbearable, there is absolutely no sense in it, it is just a set of tourist personnel. Jam Cohen shot in New York, Moscow, Sharje, Istanbul, all in a row, not very interesting street scenes. Nevertheless, in his waybill there is an indistinct charm that turns it into a movie. James Benning shoots something like a million times better, but Cohen's film remains in memory, especially one strange Moscow scene: the old woman in a motley jacket slowly breaks the ads of the ads of the ads (“The Russian family will remove it without bad habits”, etc.), exposing advertising with a cat, voluptuously looking at a bowl of his food.
19. Queen of the Desert , director Werner Herzog
There is something fascinating in the passion of Werner Herzog to Budwers, violating public norms, aimlessly climbing the devil knows where the devil knows why. It is clear why he was delighted with the story of the adventurer-traveler Gertrude Bell, who was friends with the ferocious leaders of the Bedouins and went into risky expeditions for the back streets of the Arab East. I expected a lot from this film, hoped to see something like Fitzcaraldo, but left the hall in complete horror. “The Queen of the Desert” is a complete nightmare, completely everything is monstrous: the ridiculous Nicole Kidman with a sagging lower lip, stupid dialogues and love scenes in the spirit of Jane Austin, decorations and costumes (the Bedouins and travelers that have not been rushed in snow -white outfits) - it is impossible to believe that this was shot not wretched Hollywood craftsman, but The author of the "glass heart". Hertzog's last documentary films of those sentenced to death were magnificent, even a small custom -made movie about the dangers of using mobile phones at the wheel, he made great. How could he remove such a mediocre “queen”? The mind is incomprehensible. I leave the film on the list only as an example of Hollywood inhuman power, capable of exterminating even such a titanium as a dick.
20. Body , director of Malgozhaat Shumysk
A silver bear for directing, and it would be worth awarding the performers of the main roles - a cynical detective of a criminal investigation department, his suicidal daughter and a psychotherapist, combined medium. A reliable and witty film about spiritualism and the eternal life of the dead, I put it in the twentieth place only because I watched it at the last session on the last day of the Berlin Film Festival.
