year 2013. Grigory Pomerantz died

Two years ago, on February 16, 2013, the Russian philosopher and culturologist Grigory Solomonovich Pomerants died at the age of 94.

In 1949, he was arrested on charges of anti-Soviet activities and sentenced to 5 years in the camps. His Ph.D. thesis "Some Currents of Religious Nihilism", written in 1968, became the first serious study of the Buddhist Zen school in the USSR. But before the defense at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences, Pomeranz signed his name in support of the demonstrators on August 25, 1968, against the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia. The defense did not take place allegedly due to the lack of a quorum in the academic council, but in fact, by order from above.
