During a spontaneous rally against the development of a park in the East Degunino district in northern Moscow, a pensioner died, reports Dolgoprudny-News . According to the portal, when an elderly participant in the protest against the construction of a store near the street of the 800th anniversary of Moscow became ill, emergency doctors arrived at the scene. However, the man died on the way to the hospital. To prevent heavy equipment from reaching the construction site, residents of nearby houses blocked the street. “Clashes began between construction workers and protesters,” the publication reports. An initiative group of residents has been fighting the construction of the Pyaterochka supermarket on the site of a public garden next to the Beskudnikovo railway station for the past few months. Deputy of the municipal assembly of Eastern Degunino Vladimir Kuzmin claims that the main reason for the indignation of local residents is the destruction of trees. As the deputy notes, there are about eight supermarkets in the area, and only two public gardens. Despite numerous rallies and appeals to the district government, on February 4, workers began cutting down trees, after which an initiative group of local residents established a 24-hour watch in the park.
