Alexey Venediktov announced the cessation of broadcasting of “Echo of Petersburg”

The radio station "Echo of Petersburg" from March 17 will stop broadcasting. This was announced by the editor-in-chief of "Echo of Moscow" Alexei Venediktov. According to him, the general director of "Echo of Moscow" Mikhail Demin decided to revoke the license from the St. Petersburg station due to a conflict between shareholders.

Venediktov said that the minority shareholders of Echo of Petersburg tried to appoint their general director, Tatiana Kaglyak. Ekho Moskvy, as the majority shareholder, proposed a compromise: to create a board of directors headed by Kaglyak.

“They refused to compromise. Unfortunately, because of them, St. Petersburg will lose Echo,” Venediktov said.

Olga Bychkova, editor-in-chief of Echo of Petersburg, commented on the current situation to Snob: “I don’t know what will happen to the employees and what will happen to the radio station. I want to hope that during the month until Demin’s decision comes into force, reason will prevail.”

“I am furious. I managed to persuade Gazprom Media to appoint a board of directors headed by minority shareholders, and I gave it to them as their victory. They didn't accept it. As a result, we are losing Petersburg,” Venediktov said.
