The Eurogroup voted for prolonging the Greece Assistance Program

The finance ministers of the EU members, gathered on February 16 in Brussels, voted for the prolongation of the Greece financial assistance program, Reuters reports with reference to the statement of the head of the euro group Yerun Deisselblum.

However, Greece blocked the decision of the remaining 18 members of the European group, opposing the extension of the program after February 28. In turn, Athens failed to convince European neighbors to sign an intermediate financing agreement until the conclusion of a new permanent agreement. Thus, negotiations in Brussels ended to no avail.

Earlier, the Greece government stated that the “unreasonable” proposals of the Eurogroups for the prolongation of the financial assistance program are a “empty waste of time”. In the European group, the idea of ​​financing the needs of Greece was rejected without guarantees of the stabilization of the Greek financial system.
