The Presnensky Court of Moscow sentenced opposition leader Alexei Navalny to administrative arrest for 15 days. This means that if the court's decision is not changed, the activist will not be able to participate in the opposition rally scheduled for March 1.

Navalny was accused of repeatedly violating the rules for holding rallies (clause 8 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation). The maximum punishment under this article is a million rubles fine or 30 days of arrest.

Judge Irina Zubova rejected all the motions of the defense, including refusing to exclude from the case file a protocol filled out in pencil, with which Navalny was not familiarized. Judge Irina Zubova also refused to watch the video recording of the oppositionist's detention, because, from her point of view, everything is already set out in the protocol.

Alexei Navalny was detained on February 15 in the Moscow metro while he was distributing leaflets.
An opposition rally is planned for March 1 in Moscow. The activists notified the mayor's office of their intention to hold a protest on Tverskaya Street. The Moscow authorities have proposed a march to Maryino, where Navalny lives.
