On the night of February 23, the 87th Oscar award ceremony was held in Los Angeles. This year the Russian film directed by Andrei Zvyagintsev “Leviathan” claimed to be the Academy of Cinematic Arts and Sciences. However, the coveted figurine on the finish line was intercepted by the Polish painting “Ida”, shot by Pavel Pavlikovsky.

The best film of this year was the Berdman Alejandro Gonzalez Injaritta. The tragicomedy about the actor, who is trying to return to a large stage, also received figurines for the best directorial work, the best original script and the best operator work. Four Oscars gathered Wes Anderson's film “Grand-Budapest Hotel”.
The best actor who played the main male role was Eddie Redmain, who played Stephen Hawking in the film “Theory of All”. At the finish line, the 33-year-old actor overtook Bradley Cooper (the film "Sniper") and Benedict Cumberbatch ("Play in imitation"). The award for the best female role was received by Julianna Moore for the role of a professor of linguistics, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
For the best male and feminine roles, Jay Cay Simmons (“Obsession”) and Patricia Arquette (“adolescence”) were awarded. Both paintings claimed the title of best film.
This year, the honorary Oscar was received by a French actor, screenwriter and writer Jean-Claude Career, Irish actress Morin O`Hara and Hayao Miyazaki. The master of Japanese animation received a golden figurine earlier, for the film "Directed by Ghosts."
The film critic Alena Solntseva told The New Times , why the Russian Leviathan was left without a reward: “I think that Pavlikovsky’s choice is primarily connected with the fact that the theme of the picture is closer to American critics. This is a story about the Holocaust, about the Second World War, about the tragedy of Eastern Europe. In addition, the picture was made with references to the cinema of the 60s: this is both a black and white picture and general stylistics. In this regard, Ida, to some extent, wins with Leviathan. So you should not look for a conspiracy here, they do not vote here by the "decree of the party", but based on personal understanding and sensation. "
