The US extended sanctions against Russia

Barack Obama extended for a year the sanctions against Russia, the first of which were introduced in March 2014, according to the US president posted on the White House website.

For the first time, the "emergency regime" in relation to Russia, which, according to the American administration, by its actions against Ukraine pose a threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States, was introduced by Obama Numma Number 13660 of March 6 last year.

As explained, the president 90 days before the end of the annual period should decide on the extension of the "emergency" for the new period. Earlier, Obama sent a notification to Congress about the need for such a decision. Thus, a regime providing for US sanctions against Russia is extended after March 6 for another year.

The US authorities imposed sanctions against Russia in several stages - in addition to March 6, 2014, the corresponding decisions were adopted on March 16, March 20 and December 19.

Sanctions introduced by the United States and other Western countries affected several companies, mainly operating in the energy, financial and defense sectors. Personal sanctions were also imposed against individual Russian citizens.
