The Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested the Governor of Sakhalin, Alexander Khoroshavin, until April 27, reports . the Moscow agency
Earlier, Andrei Ikramov, adviser to the governor of the Sakhalin region, Khoroshavin, was remanded in custody by the Basmanny Court for the same period. Investigators believe that he was an intermediary in the transfer of a $5.6 million bribe to Khoroshavin.
According to the agency, during the meeting, representatives of the investigation and the prosecutor's office asked to place the governor under arrest, while Khoroshavin himself and his defenders demanded that a preventive measure be chosen for him in the form of house arrest, a recognizance not to leave the place, or bail in the amount of 5 million rubles.
Khoroshavin, Ikramov and two other defendants in the case - Boris Usachev and Vyacheslav Gorbachev - were detained on the afternoon of March 3 after searches in the government, then the governor, along with his adviser, was transported to Moscow by plane.
A case was initiated against the officials under Part 6 of Article 290, Part 4 of Article 290.1 of the Criminal Code (receiving a bribe on an especially large scale). During the search, a large sum of money was seized from Khoroshavin. According to investigators, the governor received a bribe when concluding contracts for the construction of the Yuzhno-Sakhalin CHPP-1, which was built from 2010 to 2013. The governor himself claimed during the meeting that he had nothing to do with this contract.
Khoroshavin has led the Sakhalin region since 2007.
