"Perm-36" will become a museum of Gulag workers

The first exhibition in the museum "Perm-36" after its transfer under the full control of the state will be devoted to the means of protection and technical methods of keeping prisoners. Alexander Kalikh, member of the board of the international society "Memorial", told about this.

The director of ANO Perm-36 (a non-profit organization that declared self-liquidation on March 3), Viktor Shmyrov, told the BBC that the museum will remain, but will be completely changed. “Now this is a museum about the camp system, but not about political prisoners. They don't talk about repressions or about Stalin,” Shmyrov said.

Now "Perm-36" is a museum that tells about the hard and noble work of the valiant employees of the Gulag, about what technologies were used to protect the great people from the fifth column and various Nazis from Ukraine.

• The Perm-36 Museum of the History of Political Repressions was established in 1992 in the Perm Territory on the territory of a former colony. This is the only surviving complex of the Stalinist Gulag in Russia.
• The exhibits of the museum belong to the autonomous non-profit organization "Perm-36", and the museum complex and land belong to the state. In 2012, ANO was actually suspended from participating in the work of the museum. Negotiations with the authorities did not give any result, in connection with which Perm-36 announced self-liquidation.
