The night is gentle

A series of photographs of Alice Reznik “One Another” could be a story about a single endless night uniting Berlin and St. Petersburg. The night without end, who does not know dawn, stretching over deserted cities and crawling into interiors with wiped carpets and old stools, where the characters who pass in front of Reznik or posing against her against the faded curtains and wallpaper live.

Sometimes detached, with an absent look, sometimes with a challenge or contempt for a camera, Alice Reznik’s heroes seem to play a play in which familiar stories mix with detective riddles. Before the Reznik camera, a string of people, distorted persons, exhausted bodies, lonely or enclosed in each other's arms, balancing on the edge of the abyss or frozen in a nightmare of expectations, that at any moment the ninth door can open.

Her doomed characters can resemble the “descent in hell” of d'Agat, her scenes of nightlife - to be associated with the world of the “Cafe Lemits” Anders Petersen, a brothel of alcoholics, sailors and prostitutes. But, despite these references, the main thing in Alice Reznik’s works is her enchanting photographic handwriting, capable of conveying a gentle and sympathetic attitude towards the people who had met and whom she photographed.
