On Wednesday, March 11, the press service of the Basmanny Court commented on the words of Zaur Dadaev, accused in the murder case of politician Boris Nemtsov, about his non-involvement in the case, Interfax reports .

Court press secretary Anna Fadeeva explained that Dadaev was allowed to express his position regarding the investigation’s request to place him in custody. “Dadaev was given the floor. Only he thought that a criminal case was being considered, and the judge said that his opinion was needed regarding the investigation’s request to place him in custody,” Fadeeva explained. As the press secretary noted, Dadaev said that he “disagrees with the investigator’s opinion.”

The Moscow City Court, in turn, explained that when considering the investigation’s request to select a preventive measure, the issue of evidence and guilt of the accused is not considered. As the head of the court's press service, Ulyana Solopova, explained, at the court hearing the accused and suspects are asked for their opinion on the investigation's stated request. She added that the Moscow City Court cannot yet comment on Dadaev’s case, as it does not rule out conducting a review of the legality of his arrest.

Opposition leader Boris Nemtsov was shot on the night of February 28 on the Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge near the Kremlin and buried on March 3 at the Troekurovskoye cemetery in the capital. After his murder, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case in which five people were detained and arrested : Zaur Dadaev, Khamzat Bazaev, Shagit and Anzor Gubashev and Tamerlan Eskerkhanov.

During the trial, it became known that Zaur Dadaev confessed to involvement in the murder. On March 10, the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper reported that Dadaev declared his innocence in a conversation with human rights activists from the Public Monitoring Commission (POC).
