British Foreign Minister Philip Hammond admitted that London could publish data on the financial situation of Putin’s nearest circle as a response measure for Russia in the southeast of Ukraine to demonstrate the true person of its rulers, writes The Telegraph .

Hammond said that Putin was engaged in the accelerated modernization of the Armed Forces, and warned that Russia's attempts to destabilize the situation in Eastern Europe pose the “greatest threat” of British national security. According to the minister, Britain should recognize that attempts to help Russia take a “worthy place” in the world after the end of the Cold War were “rejected”.

Answering the question whether the British government can publish "interesting" data on the financial affairs of the nearest Putin environment, Hammond replied that this was possible.

"Speaking about the further steps that we can take in order to strengthen pressure on Russia, we are constantly considering the possibilities of strategic communication: how do we turn to the Russian people and to those whom Russia is trying to influence to convey the real picture of what is happening?" The minister said. “This is an interesting idea, and I will put this task before specialists in strategic communications.”

Hammond also emphasized that for two decades after the end of the Cold War, Britain and its allies tried to do everything to integrate the former rival into the international system with its rules so that Russia could take a worthy place in it, but these efforts were rejected.

"We are faced with the fact that the Russian leader is not interested in joining this system that preserves the world between the peoples, but to undermine it," Hammond said. He emphasized that the modernization of the Russian army and weapons, along with the aggressive actions of the armed forces, including the invasion of Russian aircraft into the airspace of NATO countries, serve as an concern.

“Anyone older than 50 is well known, Russia's behavior is a good reminder that it can pose a serious threat to our security,” Hammond said and added that in the foreseeable future, intelligence will continue to collect data on the capabilities and intentions of Russia: “It is no coincidence that the intelligence services are again gaining Russian -speaking ones,” he emphasized.

He also said that the information collected by British spies was already used to identify the objects of the EU sanctions, which were introduced in response to the actions of Moscow in Ukraine.
