European leaders have decided to begin the fight against the Russian “disinformation campaign” regarding the events taking place in eastern Ukraine. This follows from the draft statement of the upcoming EU summit, reports Reuters .

From the draft document obtained by the agency, it follows that EU leaders will ask EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini to develop a plan on how to “support media freedom and European values in Russia.” Mogherini will be given three months to prepare the corresponding plan - until the next EU summit, which will take place in June 2015.

“The European Council emphasizes the need to challenge the ongoing Russian disinformation campaign and invites the High Representative […] to prepare a strategic communications action plan in support of media freedom and EU values for the June European Council summit,” reads the draft statement.

The next EU summit will take place on March 19–20.
