A year ago, on March 16, 2014, an illegitimate referendum on the status of the peninsula was held in Crimea, organized by pro-Russian separatists with the support of Russian troops. According to the separatists, in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, 96.77% of those who voted supported the annexation of Crimea to Russia, with a turnout of 83.1%, and in Sevastopol, 95.6% of voters voted in favor of annexation to Russia, with a turnout of 89.5%.
