Humpy, the Hindu religious center, is located among the ruins of the capital of the Vidzhayanagar Empire, which occupied the whole south of India beyond the Krishna River from 1336 to the middle of the 17th century. The Ruins of Vijayanagar belong to the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
