On the afternoon of March 23, in the Chechen capital, near the Berkat shopping center, law enforcement officers conducted a mass check of young people's mobile phones, local residents told the Caucasian Knot.
On March 23, the 12th anniversary of the adoption of the Chechen constitution was celebrated in the republic. Random checks were made on the phones of young people. And not everyone was stopped, but only young guys. What they were looking for in phones, and on what basis this was done, is unclear. It seems that there were no detainees during these checks,” said a representative of one of the local non-governmental organizations, Isa.
According to him, events of this kind are systematically held in the Chechen capital. “The security forces take away the phones of young people, then they check all the records. If there is something on the topic of the war in Syria or a video of Caucasian militants, or something like that, then the owner of the phone is in serious trouble. In the best case, he will be taken to the unit that conducted this "special event", and there they will hold an explanatory trouble, with the participation of the mullah. At worst, they can be beaten, accused of sympathizing with the “shaitans”, and then how lucky, ”says the social activist.
