In the "haystack" found a signature of Monet
Finnish scientists from the University of Yuvaskul confirmed the authenticity of Claude Monet “Host Sen in the Evening Sun”, exploring the canvas using a hyperteral chamber. The authorship of the artist has not yet been established, since the picture remained unknown for a long time, and the signature was hidden.
Under a layer of paint, the researchers found a signature of Monet, and also found that the work was created in 1891. In addition, the authorship of the impressionist confirmed the analysis of the pigments and fibers of the canvas.
The picture is currently belonging to the Finnish art fund of Serlachius Fine Arts Foundation, which bought it from an intermediary in London in the 1950s (English.).
- “Harm of hay in the evening sun” is the only picture of Monet, which is owned by Finnish state meetings.
- The Stoga series is one of the most famous in the work of Monet along with the cycles of the “water lily” and “Rouen Cathedral”, created at different times of the year in different lights. The Stoga includes about 25 paintings, which were written in 1890-1891 near the artist’s house in Zhiverni.
