The number of higher educational institutions in Russia will be reduced by 40% due to non -state universities, said the head of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation Dmitry Livanov. His words are given by Kommersant .
“In the 1990s, a huge number of non-state universities arose. Unfortunately, those monitoring of the quality of education that we conducted showed that not all of them give a quality education. In a number of cases, this is just an office for the sale of diplomas without an established educational process, without a qualified teaching staff, ”the minister said at the VI St. Petersburg Educational Forum.
He added that the concept of the federal target program for the development of education for 2016-2020 provides for a reduction in the number of universities by 40%, and their branches-by 80%.
The reduction will not affect state educational institutions and "good non -state universities."
“We are talking, first of all, about the reduction of these non -state universities that give poor -quality education. We have about 100-150 good non-state universities. They do not threaten them, ”said Livanov.
According to the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, by the beginning of last year there were 593 state and 486 non -state university in the country, which had 1376 and 682 branches, respectively. In total, 7 million people studied in them, 2 million of whom were trained for a budget account.
