In the spring of 1909, Blok writes to mothers from Venice.
“Lyuba walks in a Paris bar, I am in a Viennese white suit and Venetian Panama. I am considering people and at home, I play with crabs and collect shells. Everything is very quiet, lazy and resting. We want to swim in the sea. Finally, there are no Russian newspapers, and I do not hear and do not read the indecent names of the Union of the Russian people and Milyukov, but in all the windows I read the names of Dante, Petrarch, Reskin and Bellini. Every Russian artist has the right to plug ears from everything Russian for at least a few years and see his other homeland - Europe, and Italy especially. ”
One of the sharp temptations of the present time, which is almost impossible to resist - to carry out a simple operation, replace in a letter to Milyukov with Milonov (or Navalny, which is closer to the author’s political sympathies), and the union of the Russian people on the ours. And once again to present a picture of a three -century static, where nothing changes except surnames, and the Lada Train Pushkin is ready to go to China, and the road block has to plug ears in order to return to the fact that you want to take it as a norm, as a norm, as a homeland. To the sensation of the length and constancy, which seems compatible with life - the light enfilade of the premises, where peace closes with the will. Where, speaking of Pushkin’s words, they intend to live.
Sometimes it seems that Russia read these lines too literally, remembered too well - and at once explained everything for centuries ahead. The assumption is still unfolding into the entire width of invisible shoulders, gains air, but in my head, like a teaser, it runs forward “and look, just die,” and the gloating that the author sounds in it. In this, in advance, which, in advance, has already canceled the method of reading, there is no more will or peace, because there is no future: he has no place for ephemer dome to build, he immediately slapped the counting: look-as-once-haul! After all, as it happened at Pushkin himself: he only suggested living and immediately died; As soon as the escape to the monastery of the distant work and pure nod - and immediately a black river, clogging, death, and death. It is better not to assume, not get used to, not to sit. “Do not sit down more convenient,” as another poet said.
In a good English novel, someone calls the old people on the phone with the words "Remember that you have to die." Among the frightened, indignant, businessarly calling the police there is only one cute lady who replies: “My dear, I don’t remember anything else!” It is strange to think that there is a plot of land on which Momeento Mori may be optional-but it seems that in the territory of present-day Russia a person is too well prepared for death (and much worse-to live in any way without feeling that the transition from this light has already begun to that). Marina Tsvetaeva once wrote about this, calling the attachment ; This says Rilke in “Russian” stories about the Lord God: “So what does Russia border with?” - "You know that!" Cried the patient.
According to Rilke, Russia directly borders on God - a geopolitical situation that cannot but disturb those who live in the border territory. A practical conclusion from such a neighborhood is that the usual corridor is a consequence, a crime-destination, a present-worshiping, today or tomorrow it becomes impenetrable, impenetrable. Here is God, but the threshold; Behind the threshold a formidable unknown, frightening to the Azdodes, for which it is not supposed to look. Any prospect of man -made comfort is collapsed to the Sofrinsky icon: human existence is not described and is not guaranteed by anything other than a certain number of precedents. Roughly speaking, everything that is known about life is that Pushkin has died, and behind him all the rest (and the twentieth century once again shows how “all the rest” die in so -called interesting times).
It seems that today Russia is more willing to believe in the prospect of terrible (familiar from childhood in helpful substitute samples-from pioneers-heroes to their own grandfathers and great-grandfathers) than in their own ability to change. This gives modernity a completely special illumination, anxious unity, not at all characteristic of reality - Her eclectic, garbage, motley, life flow. This backlight, incomparable to the course of someone's external plan, I know too well in reality man-made: this is how a work of art is usually arranged, which carries the seal of the author’s will. The gloomy capacity of what is happening around is very similar to the literary text. In a sense, this is the case; More and more often it seems that the country is not going to close the book and go out at the next stop.
A wild, cloecked archaization, which everything is being said now and which has to be observed and described right in the course of how the soil shows underfoot, has an entertaining background in Russia. Some years ago I was asked a question that it would be interesting to answer today. The Englishman, a specialist in Russian literature, asked-and could not understand why the whole Russian prose could have passed through the department of science fiction ( Sci-Fi , Fantasy , Fairy Tale ). Here is your Pelevin, here is your Sorokin, here is your Petrushevskaya, he said-some kind of ghost, wonderful salvation, an oprichnik with a claw, a war of mice with monkeys will certainly stick into any realistic text. I have nothing against it - but why everywhere, why everyone has?
Or not, but most of the texts perceived by the general public (we are now talking not about literature, but rather about ethnography with anthropology where the laws of large numbers work) as written in the case related to reality, and indeed telling about the life of ghouls, foxes and saints. Moreover, some of them seem to have an extended shelf life - as an old story by Pelevin, where in the forest near Moscow, a German pilot of the time of World War II will resurrect in order to marry a girl to a foreigner. In a strange way, this text and thirty years later gives an idea of the actual reality: remains accurate, written with a living nature, a physiological outline of Russian life.
Evasion from reality, it turns out, is the most common realism - the realism of the first strip, the attraction of author’s courage. In this capacity, he is perceived by the local reader (and, as a rule, does not have special attractiveness for the reader of the external - in contrast to Latin American magical realism with his lush miracles). That is, the Russian is incredible, it is also Russian probable - it is such an internal product that it is rarely possible to find an acceptable sundress to pack it for the outside world. This speaks little about the books themselves - but there is a lot about the structure of reality, which has to deal with the letters of the Cyrillic alphabet and those for whom they are intended.
There is a feeling that the local reality comes from something like an unwritten convention, often invisible and slurred for an external observer, but a clear one who lives in this semantic space. Outwardly, the country had recently been involved in the political, economic, cultural layouts of today, tried if not to catch up, to participate, to participate, to renew, with vigorous heat, rolling up the bicycle paths, entering the WTO or where else, signing the agreements and participating in the summits. At the same time, it was more faithful, under this - there was always another, more intimate logic, which the conditional swamp easily divides with the conditional Poklonnaya: one in all.
According to this logic, any movement in history - in its syntactic system - is perceived as external, imitating, almost as a children's game that is being started in order to spend time. Another, internal routine is really important. The general belief that any, the most wild, turn of the life plot is possible and inevitable. The general fear is too suffered to the warm side of this world, and then collapse into the ice unknown. But the most important thing is deep, to the very nostrils, immersion into the past. This is not allowed to look at the future, without describing it as Stalingrad or Potsdam, Tsushima or Hiroshima - to feel the present as its own, which does not have precedents, analogues, and samples. This placement of the past is not like any of the diseases I know, and it needs analysis and treatment. The inability to place at least some detachment, lack of distance and even desire to distance themselves from everything that has already happened, give an opportunity for strange transmutations to each other and the past. When the past and the present coexist with such intensity, the future is made unnecessary - and most of all resembles the descent in the Hades.
All the hot points of Russian history, where you are not requested, from 1991 to 1917, from Stalin to Peter, from the Decembrists to the Vlasovites, by the beginning of the new millennium turned out to be not dots-constituting a common line, not paragraphs of general lead-but episodes of an unnecessary war, bunches of conflicting versions. It seems that over the past three hundred years of the zone that would not have been problematic in this sense: it would not be in the art . That is - a restless, unprepared, bubble ignorance instead of nursed knowledge.
This specifics of handling the past is special, she has her own dictionary, which is unlikely to translate into the language of sleeping samples. It is not described either in the logic of crowding out/forgetting, nor in the logic of admission of guilt and working with it. The way it works in Russia can only be described as fascinity, deep and personal involvement in the past - each and each of us, current . Rearing the past is carried out without stopping - and not only on central channels and in official publications or in non -certificate texts of political bloggers. You can, for example, just go to YouTube - there are hundreds of comments on the singing “Feel free to battle”, there they tear each other to shreds for the right -handed one -year -old business, there is no difference between the twentieth and first centuries and no desire to conduct a discussion in an academic way. The discussions of this kind (about the First World War, World War II, Afghan, Chechen, about the repressions and collapse of the USSR) are self -proclaimed in a taxi, train, and a reception of a doctor - any place where the possibility of conversation arises. This is all a little reminiscent of a family scandal - but a huge country turns out to be a kitchen, and the characters are not only living, but also dead. Which, as it turns out, is more alive than all living things.
The special nature of our relations with the past and its things is explained, perhaps, by the fact that no one has ever entered into the rights of the inheritance. Which is not surprising: in a sense, we are all the successors of the people of the 20-30s, who instilled in the apartments of the former people-arrested, exiled, erased-and for years we sat on other people's chairs under other people's portraits, but not forgetting about the incompleteness of their right and general history. As a result of the idea of the past, about the history of the family, about the history of the country, it can be the most fantastic, enriched with any guesses, not be shy of any silence (and even consider them natural) - the past never becomes past, completed or ended. With each new race to the territory of the present, it is made stronger.
It is important here and the readiness with which the past accepts all advances and how generously pays in response. The feeling of a one -time modernity by the whole twentieth century, which I remember in the beginning of the nineties, has not yet been very very inherent, has not become vibrant. The possibility of discussing one or another Mandelstam thesis as hot, freshly smeared and directly regarding everyday life has not gone anywhere. If you think about it, it was/happens not always: a hundred years ago, from the same distance, the block writes about Apollo Grigoryev, and this is a look through binoculars, there is a retrospective chill between them, hundreds of disconnecting years. It is difficult for me not to think that the enlarged life of the poetic field, which has become the general success of the last decades, is owed this sluggishness to the past, this special kind of magnetization --large samples, Magna Imago , which set us a scale that communicate acceleration and requiring an answer.
Here you can apply a fashionable term and talk about colonization - think about how the present with the future find themselves in the dominions of the past, switch to his language, build themselves in his image and likeness. Because the strange barter, who are occupied in Russia, concerns not only people of culture at all: it seems that everything has been the beneficiaries and victims of these relations. The past supplies optical devices that allow everyone to feel the real : an actor, a make -up of developing events. This feeling is completely taken away from the Russians in the political sense, but with all generosity it is compensated by the information of accounts with the past-in-and-right. When the Moscow car owner writes in his car “On Berlin!”, He actively erases the boundaries between himself and the winning grandfather; Its daily traffic around the city-to service, to the store, to the cottage-will be like a victorious movement in conquered Europe, he, as it were, turns out to be his own grandfather, soldier-liberator, bronze monument, without investing in this except the bucket of paint. The reverse of the Lermontovsky “heroes, not you” - “we” turn out to be doubly twice - and due to the fact that we are on the shoulders of the monuments, and due to the fact that we consider this growth to our own.
Not so long ago, I read an interview with a volunteer who left for the Donbass to fight on the side of the militias. There are many such stories now; This one has a special way - the hero of the interview, as they say, a Frenchman of Russian origin, an emigrant in the second generation. But when he was asked “why did he come?”, He replied that he was going to finish what his grandfathers began.
This is a indifference of himself and his grandfather, the past and present, of course, is also something like the unspoken convention, the general agreement with (some kind of, hardly clean) force-and sometimes like a children's game in the war. The suddenly acquired opportunity to go through the mirror-and instead of a peaceful/boring/everyday life, to be in the red and black reality of some “elusive avengers”, where you can drive through enemies and protect friends, and then return to where the trains go on schedule-it has long been rolled up in hundreds of books and films. The difference is perhaps on a scale. And the fact that the transition from the comfort zone to the bloody adventure zone occurs without embarrassment and without hiding, in front of the whole world, fixing a new model. It would be easier and rude to call what is happening in the form of extreme tourism; But the matter seems to be deeper and worse. Most of all these jokes with serious, these children's games in elementary magic remind me of an old story about a student of a sorcerer who calls for life forces with whom he does not know how to cope.
It seems that the difference with a hidden war in Afghanistan or with an underground Chechen war, the truth of which for years has been supplanted on the periphery of public consciousness, also lies in the fact that in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict the number of victims is not exhausted by the lists of killed and wounded. In order to meet face to face with the victims of the information war, it is enough to go to any social network. In this war, it seems that there are no witnesses (somewhere far there is a war, but we see it) and even the rear (we are in a peaceful city, and there they kill it): everyone turns out to be a participant to some extent. There is no difference between the aspects of the conflict: the self -awareness of the actors, the Survivor ' OV, people experiencing unthinkable, is total. And the fact that the conversation is conducted hundreds of kilometers from the center of events does not change the matter. This is a conversation of the wounded - and only a general, collective injury, one on all, its intonation can be explained.
I must say, very carefully, one more thing-that the nature of this injury is possibly other than those who were in the combat zone and was forced not to experience what was happening, but first of all, to make it: take care of themselves and those who are nearby, warm, shelter, survival. Caring for the preservation of life seems to be strangely helping to keep my mind. But the illusion of the co -consumption, acquired between a backwardly understood past and incomplete knowledge of what is being done in the present, turns out to be fatal for those who live what is happening without leaving the Internet.
Because “we” are the broad we, including not me and my friends, not the conditional community of reading these letters, but all who have a history of the Soviet system of historical education with its microtrauma, deliberately applied to the child (as hard as vaccinations, and in the same logic), with its saints and self-like heroes, with its clinings. “The main thing is that there is no war”, making the war the only horizon of expectation - this is wide we recognize a certain vocabulary as a native: well, it has begun.
Recently, social networks have become another device for pumping already meager air. The point, perhaps, is also that in the absence of a free press (two or three randomly preserved publications only emphasize the void of a common meadow), its differently has to be reconstructed, this time on its own.
What is wrong with them?
