Awarded Astrid Lindgren Prize

The Astrid Lindgren International Prize for contribution to the development of children's and youth literature was awarded to the Praesa (Project for the Study of Alternation in South Africa) from the South African Republic.

This was announced today, March 31, in Stockholm, the chairman of the international jury Buel Vestin, RIA Novosti reports.

The project based in Cape Town in the study of alternative education in 1992 grew into the organization of Praesa , which helps children learn to read and not forget their native language. The organization works in contact with scientists and volunteers through the chain of book clubs it created. Thanks to Praesa activists in South Africa, a series of books in different languages ​​that speak in the country are published.

Astrid Lindgren Astrid was established by the Sweden government in 2002. It is considered one of the largest among international literature awards for children and adolescents - the cash prize is 5 million Swedish crowns ($ 700 thousand). Last year, the Swedish writer Barbro Lindgren received the prize.

In 2015, 197 candidates from 61 countries claimed the award - children's writers, illustrators and organizations working with children. The writer Arthur Givargizov, illustrators Sergey Lyubaev and Igor Oleinikov, as well as the Bamper Book Book, were nominated from Russia.
