The Presnensky Court of Moscow arrested on Tuesday, March 31, the former head of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) of Russia, Alexander Reimer, on charges of fraud of 2.7 billion rubles in the purchase of “electronic bracelets,” Interfax reports .

Reimer will remain in custody until May 31. Thus, the court rejected the defense request of the former head of the Federal Penitentiary Service to impose a preventive measure on him in the form of house arrest or bail. When making a decision, the court took into account information about his state of health, marital status and the circumstances of the case in which he is a defendant.

At the same time, the court emphasized that the gravity of the crime charged against Reimer does not provide grounds for choosing a more lenient preventive measure for him. According to the court ruling, if the former head of the Federal Penitentiary Service is chosen a preventive measure not related to detention, he can hide from the investigation or influence witnesses. The prosecutor's office supported the request for Reimer's arrest.

TASS also reports that the court decided to arrest one of the defendants in the case of fraud in the purchase of electronic bracelets in the Federal Penitentiary Service - businessman Nikolai Martynov. He will be in custody until May 30.

Reimer was detained earlier on Tuesday, March 31. He was charged with fraud in the procurement of electronic bracelets. In addition to him, charges of fraud have been brought against the former deputy head of the FSIN Nikolai Krivolapov, the director of the Center for Information, Technical Support and Communications (FSUE TsITOS) of the FSIN Viktor Oderenov and businessman Nikolai Martynov.

Reimer resigned as director of the Federal Penitentiary Service in June 2012.
