UNESCO CEO became the commander of the Order of Honor Legion

The General Director of the United Nations on Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) Irina Bokova was awarded the title of commander of the Order of the Honorary Legion. The corresponding decree signed by the President of France was published today in the official publication of the Journal Officiel, TASS reports.

Irina Bokova was elected to the post of General Director of UNESCO in 2009. She became the first woman at the head of this international organization. In 2013, it was re -elected, having received wide support of countries - participants in the General Conference.

The head of UNESCO is a professional diplomat, a recognized expert in the history of international relations and international law. Before coming to the current post, she headed the Foreign Ministry of Bulgaria, was the ambassador of her country in France. A graduate of MGIMO, Bokova perfectly speaks most of the working languages ​​of UNESCO - Russian, French, Spanish and English.

Also by the decree of the President of France, the title of Cavalier of the Great Cross of the Order of the Honorary Legion was awarded the famous French-abstract artist Pierre Sulazh. In the early 1950s, he held the first exhibitions of his works, after which his vision and handling of abstract forms were highly appreciated in European art circles.
