The Ministry of Defense does not intend to allocate additional funds for the repair of the Orel nuclear submarine, which suffered from a fire at the Zvezdochka shipyard, Kommersant reports with reference to sources in the military department.
It will be possible to assess the damage from the fire only after the defect, the source explained. Talking about the terms of repair and costs, he added, follows only after the preparation of new schedules for the performance of work. At the same time, the source emphasized that there was no guilt of the Ministry of Defense in what happened.
“Therefore, they will not receive any ruble from us for this repair in excess of the amount of the contract,” the representative of the department added.
The submarine, according to the publication, was not insured for the duration of the repair, in connection with which additional expenses will have to be assumed either by a shipyard or a united shipbuilding corporation. A source in the government said that Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin entrusted, under the threat of dismissal, to the acting general director of Starshochka Eduard Baal to restore the “eagle” within the time as provided for by the contract.
A fire on the atomic underwater cruiser with K-266 winged missiles of project 949A occurred on Tuesday. Due to the welding, the insulation caught fire between the durable and light buildings of the boat in the area of the fodder (ninth) compartment. The fire area was about 40 square meters.
The damage from the fire, according to TASS, exceeded 100 million rubles. Representatives of the Zvezdochka plant expressed the opinion that the fire would not affect the deadlines for the surrender of the Navy submarine.
