Interfax: serviceman Permyakov, accused of murdering a family in Gyumri, has been declared sane

Russian serviceman Valery Permyakov, accused of murdering a family of seven in the Armenian city of Gyumri, has been declared sane, reports Interfax , citing its own source. According to the agency's interlocutor, the examination was carried out permanently, on the territory of the Russian military base in Gyumri, where Permyakov is now in custody.

“A psychiatric examination carried out on behalf of the investigation found the serviceman sane. He was fully aware of his actions at the time of the crime,” the source said. At the same time, doctors identified “certain mental abnormalities and disorders,” he noted.

According to Interfax, after an examination has been carried out, which has shown Permyakov’s sanity, there is every reason to finally bring charges against him, as well as approve the indictment in the future and send the case to court.

On January 12, 2015, six people were killed in Gyumri - members of the Avetisyan family, including a two-year-old child. The six-month-old baby was injured and died five days later in hospital. According to the investigation, residents of Gyumri were attacked by a serviceman of the 102nd Russian military base stationed in the city. According to official data, Valery Permyakov left his place of service without permission, taking a machine gun. The serviceman said that he killed the Avetisyans, including sleeping family members and children, because he was afraid that they would betray him.
