"Number 44" will be released in Russia on DVD

The Ministry of Culture announced that the Hollywood thriller "Number 44" (Child 44), banned for showing in Russian cinemas, will be released on DVD and on legal Internet services.

“The film can be legally watch on disks or download on the Internet, ” the Ministry of Culture’s press service told Interfax . “As soon as the issue of copyright is settled, the film will become available.”

“Anyway, whoever wants, the film will watch, but if he does not go at the box office, the availability will be limited,” the press service explained.

On April 15, the day before the release of the screens in Russia, it became known that the film “Number 44” was recalled by a rental certificate. In a joint statement published the next day, the Ministry of Culture and the Central Partnership-Supplier Company explained this decision by the presence in the film “Distortion of historical facts and peculiar interpretations of events before, during and after the Great Patriotic War, as well as the images and characters of Soviet citizens of that historical era”.

“Number 44” was shot by director Daniel Espinos on the 2008 Besseller “Child 44” by the British writer Tom Rob Smith. The film takes place in the Stalin USSR. The main character, the Soviet intelligence officer Lev Demidov, played by Tom Hardy, is investigating a series of cruel children's murders.
