The Parliament of Afghanistan approved the candidates of 16 ministers of the Government of National Unity proposed by President Ashraf Gani. As the Russian Air Force service notes, this happened six months after signing the agreement on the division of power between President Ashraf Gani and his main competitor in last year’s elections - Abdullah Abdullah. Now in the Cabinet of Ministers there is only one vacancy - the Minister of Defense, about which Gani and Abdulla cannot agree.
The approval of legislators was received, including the head of the Ministry of Education of Farid Mandand, Minister of Agriculture Assad Zamir, as well as the Minister of Trade and Industry Khumayun Rasa and the head of the Bari Zhahani Ministry of Information, TASS reports.
The candidacy of the head of the Ministry of Defense at a meeting of the parliament was not discussed. In early April, General Afzal Ludin was appointed to the post of head of the military department, who after a few days abandoned his position.
The issue of the formation of the Afghan government of national unity remained unresolved for more than six months due to disagreements in the leadership of the country, as well as the inconsistencies of future officials themselves with the requirements of local legislation, in particular, the presence of dual citizenship or low qualifications.
Gani was repeatedly criticized for the inability to quickly form a government and begin to solve Afghan problems.
