The publishers of the biography of the Nazi propaganda of Joseph Goebbels filed a lawsuit: the copyright holders of his heritage demand from the Random House deductions for quotes used in the book, Guardian reports. Peter Longerich’s book was published in Germany in 2010, and in the near future it should appear on sale in Britain.
The main legal consultant of the Random House Publishing House Rainer Drasen told the British newspaper that "he could not believe his eyes" when he saw the first letter with the requirements of "Royalti for the words of the Nazis." DW notes that the interests of Goebbels’s heirs are represented by the lawyer of Cordula Shakhtol, the daughter of the Minister of Economics of Nazi Germany Yalmar Shakhta.
The author of the book about Goebbels, a professor of history of the University of Royal Holloway in London Peter Longerich, actively used diaries in the work. In Germany, no problems arose with this. His special outrage is that the lawsuit is brought by the daughter of Goebbels’s colleagues: "This is an absolutely unacceptable situation. For me as a historian, this is a matter of not only morality, but also professionalism."
Lawyer Drezen adds that an important principle has been put on the card. “We are convinced that war criminals do not need to pay any money,” he said. The lawyer admitted that the rest of the publishers probably paid certain amounts for them, but Random House is sure that there is no need to pay for the citation of the convicted Nazi war criminal.
Goebbels's diaries, which he led from 1924 to 1945, are under the protection of copywriters for 70 years, like other manuscripts. That is, until the end of 2015.
The Minister of Propaganda Goebbels, appointed by the Reich Scanler after the death of Hitler, was poisoned in the bunker two days after that, May 1, 1945.
Yalmar mine, who at different times held the posts of the Minister of Economics and the head of the Central Bank of Germany, is considered the main organizer of the Reich military economy. He was involved in the court of the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg, which fully justified him. Mine died in Munich in 1970.
