The artist Leonid Vladimir died

On April 18, in the year 95 of life, the artist Leonid Vladimir, the author of the illustrations for the books “Pinocchio” and “The Wizard of the Emerald City”, died.

Leonid Viktorovich Vladimir was born in 1920 in Moscow, in 1941 he was drafted into the army, having managed to graduate from three courses of the Moscow Engineering Institute. After the war, he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Art Faculty of VGIK at the multiplier department.

In 1953, for the diaphylem “Adventures of Pinocchio” according to the fairy tale A.N. Tolstoy artist created the image of a wooden hero in a striped cap, which became well -known and considered classic. After the release of the Buratino Adventures in the publishing house “Art” in 1956, Vladimirsky devoted himself entirely to illustrating books for children. The next widespread work of the artist was illustrations for six fairy tales by Alexander Volkov, the first of which - the Wizard of the Emerald City - was published in 1959.

Also, among the works of the artist, an illustration for the poem A.S. Pushkin “Ruslan and Lyudmila”, to the novel by Yuri Olesha “Three Fat Men”, to “The Adventures of Parsley” by Margarita Fadeeva and Anatoly Smirnov, “The Travel of the Blue Arrow” Gianni Rodari and the Russian Tales collection. The total circulation of books with illustrations by Leonid Vladimir exceeds 20 million.

“His illustrations for the books of the“ adventure of Pinocchio ”by Alexei Tolstoy and the“ wizard of the emerald city ”of Alexander Volkov became classic, and it was his eyes that we see loved characters. Leonid Viktorovich was an open and kind person who had a lot of strength, so that the books we loved the light to see the light. <...> His death is an irreparable loss for all of us, ”writer Yuri Kuznetsov wrote on his VKontakte page.
