The deputy head of the Chelyabinsk prison hospital took bribes for organizing parole

Former deputy head of LIU-9 of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Chelyabinsk Region, Sergei Efremov, was sentenced to 3.5 years in a general regime colony for bribes from relatives of prisoners. For a reward, the FSIN officer promised to arrange parole, allowed the transfer of food, and arranged a long meeting. The verdict in Efremov’s case was rendered by the Satka City Court, finding him guilty under Part 1, Part 2 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (taking a bribe) and Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud committed with the infliction of significant damage to a citizen, using one’s official position), the prosecutor’s office of the Chelyabinsk region reported on Monday. Efremov was charged with six episodes of bribes of 116 thousand rubles each, received from 2009 to 2011 for various relaxations of the regime and non-application of penalties: for the transfer of food, arranging marriage registration and providing long-term visits, for taking away a crib that was made in the colony, for transferring medicines. From 2011 to 2013, according to the indictment, Efremov received four bribes totaling 105 rubles for organizing parole. The deputy head of LIU-9 received another bribe - in the amount of 160 rubles - from the mother of a prisoner who could not get parole, but Efremov promised that the decision would be in his favor. Investigators classified this episode as fraud. In addition to imprisonment, the court sentenced the ex-FSIN employee to a fine of 3 million 150 thousand rubles.
