Political prisoner Ruslan Kutaev filed a complaint with the ECHR

As Rosbalt reports , lawyers from the interregional public organization “Committee against Torture” sent a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights in defense of the famous Chechen human rights activist and public figure Ruslan Kutaev. According to human rights activists, a number of articles of the European Convention were violated in relation to Kutaev, including the prohibition of torture, the right to personal integrity and the right to a fair trial.

Anton Ryzhov, a lawyer for the Committee against Torture, noted: “The filed complaint contains a description of a whole “bouquet” of human rights violations, but the main thing, of course, is that it substantiates an unfair trial against Kutaev, facts of falsification of evidence in his case. We will look forward to communication from the ECHR, not forgetting about work at the national level - in the near future a cassation appeal against the verdict will be sent to the Supreme Court of Russia.”

Let us recall that on June 7, 2014, Kutaev was sentenced to four years in prison in a general regime colony and restriction of freedom for a period of one year with a ban on attending public events and engaging in public activities. He was accused of illegal acquisition and possession of drugs - a little more than three grams of heroin (Part 2 of Article 228). On October 31, the Supreme Court of Chechnya reduced the sentence by two months and allowed Kutaev to visit public places after leaving the colony. The Memorial human rights center considers the case to be falsified, Kutaev is recognized as a political prisoner.
