I was prompted by the news of the abolition of the competition for the professorship at the St. Petersburg State University for historian Ivan Kurilla (the contract with the teacher decided to interrupt in the middle of the educational process, his bet is annulated.-Ed . ) , As well as the news that one of my old acquaintances, on the contrary, recently greatly advanced along the administrative line. At the same time, I recalled the forced departure of economist Konstantin Sonin from the post of Vice -Rector of the Tower and some other similar, but much less loud cases.

When I worked in Kazan, I often noticed that personnel permutations both up and down to the Russian Academy of Sciences and at Kazan University, that is, where I could watch everything with my own eyes, they cause it not that very strong negative emotions, but some kind of dull longing. At first, I did not see any global pattern in this, I looked at each case separately. Someone receives the positions of deans, vice-rectors, seizures, places in all tips, they give groups, premises, bonuses and letters to someone, with all their might, they ensure the defense of dissertations, and someone, on the contrary, does not re-elect, does not find themselves in the lists, someone is very convincing asking to dismiss the position, for example, deputy dealership (well, you yourself understand everything! ”) Or not participate in the competition, etc. D.

Usually all this is done without scandals and slowly. But it is done. It didn’t work now - nothing, wait until the next convenient moment. Well, in principle, ordinary life, in each case, its circumstances with the backstory, its own relationships, its own policy. It happens in every way. But in general, all this personnel metabolism over the past ten to fifteen left a feeling of some impending gray cloud. I am now intentionally not writing about those who are shown every day on TV, about ministers, deputies and other vip-punisons, this is a separate conversation. I'm talking about small and medium -sized bosses, about those with whom ordinary people meet every day and on which they directly depend. There are much more of them, and they are much more important than ministers and deputies. So, although my personal observations of large statistics, of course, do not form, nevertheless, from a moment, it seemed to me that all these personnel advancements seem to be very subtlely managed. As if there are some unwritten, but strict instructions for sorting on those and these.

If we say that the bosses are moving mainly by mediocrity, who can only lick his ass with a higher authorities, then this will be a very strong simplification, although there are also such. No, among those who are now in the administrative favor, there are many competent specialists. Almost all of them are very inconsistent people. Many are undeniably smart. Some sincerely try not to make abominations and look decent, well, in the framework of real opportunities, of course. (Moreover, in my opinion, the Academy cares more at the Academy, at the university, everything is much simpler and more cynical at the university.) In short, people are different, but they have almost everyone in common.

For a long time I could not figure out how to formulate this more correctly, but now I think that it would be right to say this: they are all terribly cowardly. Their cowardice, perhaps, is not visible at first sight, and, of course, what are you, what are you! - This is not cowardice at all, this is just prudence, a sober view of things, taking into account real circumstances, the desire to achieve a specific result, and not just to wave her hands, etc. But this is precisely she, cowardice, which is a pass in the current Russian so -called social elevators.

Of course, no one from above does not give any obvious attitudes on personnel policy. This happens smoothly and gradually by itself: starting from the very very top, they simply reproduce their own kinds in the chain down. Even if we are talking about the elections from below, for example, about elections to a scientific council or the election of the dean, there are a lot of soft ways to organize the process so that it does not lead to unnecessary excesses, of course, without violating any formalities.

Yes, yes, I understand perfectly well that there are not very many bold people at all, and in Russia especially, many-year-old large-scale selection affects. Nevertheless, among the leaders, the percentage of independent, free people should clearly be higher, for that they are leaders. Let not all, but there should be some critical mass that are not afraid. Otherwise, society will rot. But it is precisely these are now strictly contraindicated for the current system. Even individual single interspersed sky -free personalities are methodically and diligently cleaned. All these cowardly bosses, with their huge masses tightly cementing the whole country, in a gloomy unity carefully look around - well, who is not ours yet? You? Well, dear, it's time to make a choice - choose ...

By the way, about the choice. There are such people who you know well and well (who I have heard a lot about who you trust completely), we can say with confidence about them: well, this one will not be reborn under any circumstances, it may not climb onto the embrasure, but at least he will not participate in this abomination. There were such people, of course, and I, about whom I could say these words ... Hmm, I was not the first to notice that the last years of Russian reality gave us many discoveries in the seemingly unshakable concepts and people who had no doubt at all. That's interesting: sometimes these people, though in homeopathic doses, are recruited by the current system. At first you think: well, thank God, there will be at least one there, which is not one of these! Time passes ... Well, in general, you understood further.

I personally did not have to conduct sincere conversations with any of them, but some friends told. Somewhere in the country after the second bottle they pronounce about such a monologue: “What do you think, I do not understand what is the finish*p*c. Yes, I know this better than you, I myself cook in this shit every day! And now, just cry and whine? It’s still necessary to do it, and I do it! ” Well, the monologue is quite expected. They only cunning. They are not welcomed for business there, but in order to make them - they are silent at the right time. And they are silent. And if the circumstances of the cancer are put, this also happens, then you have to not only be silent, but also speak. And they say. Because they are cowardly.

When I started to write all this, I wanted to do something like an appeal-they say, dear friends, you don’t go to the bosses. Leave it, you are "I want to join the CPSU to make it better." You won’t do anything better, but you can do it easily. How many of these "points of no return" have been passed, how many more are there?! The path there is not very complicated, but back - often impossible. But in the way I thought that making such calls from my prosperous far from my prosperous far away. Yes, yes, I understand everything, he himself had lived there recently, let the one who ... well, and so on drops the stone. Therefore, yes, it’s better for me to call for anything. Each has their own head on the shoulders, everyone will figure it out with his conscience. But still, if you can, try not to be afraid.
