Ukraine will replace its ambassador to Belarus
Ukrainian Ambassador to Belarus Mikhail Yezhel will soon be recalled. This was announced by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
“Minsk now plays a very important role in the implementation of foreign defense and security policy,” Poroshenko said. “I have to consider this role in order to ensure a permanent Ukrainian presence in Minsk.”
Who will replace Yezhel as the Ambassador of Ukraine to Belarus has not yet been reported.
“I have made a decision to recall [Mikhail Yezhel]. The necessary documents are being prepared now,” Poroshenko said (in Ukrainian).
- Mikhail Yezhel has been the Ambassador of Ukraine to Belarus since April 2013. From March 2010 to February 2012 Yezhel headed the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine in 2014 stated that it suspected Yezhel of undermining the country's defense capability. In April 2015, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry proposed to recall Yezhel from the post of ambassador to Belarus.
