Protesters against police violence detained in Baltimore
In Baltimore, Maryland, a protest against police violence took place on April 25, which escalated into clashes.
The action was dedicated to the death of African-American Freddie Gray, who died in hospital a week after he was detained by police. According to the demonstrators, Gray died due to a spinal injury received during the arrest.
Several thousand people took part in the action in Baltimore. Towards its end, the demonstrators got into a brawl with fans of the local baseball team. As a result of the riots, six police cars were damaged. Law enforcement officers detained 12 of the most active participants in the riots.
At 8 pm, it was announced from a police helicopter that anyone who did not leave the place of the action would face arrest. The 12 most aggressive were detained and the rest dispersed, Police Commissioner Anthony Batts said.
