The European Parliament called on Russia to release Savchenko and threatened with sanctions

The European Parliament at the plenary session adopted a resolution in which he condemned Russia for the illegal detention of the Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko. It is reported by Es-Plus.

The European Parliament demanded that the Russian authorities fulfill its international obligations within the framework of the Minsk agreements and expressed the conviction that Russia does not have legal grounds or jurisdiction in order to undertake actions such as detention and investigation against Savchenko.

"The European Parliament believes that the content of Savchenko in custody as a prisoner of war in a Russian prison is a violation of the Geneva Convention; emphasizes that persons responsible for its illegal detention in Russia may be subjected to international sanctions or judicial persecution for their actions," the resolution says.

The Euro -deputies recall that Savchenko has diplomatic immunity as a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada and a member of the delegation of Ukraine in PACE.

Parliamentarians indicate the extremely alarming state of health of Savchenko and urge to resolve constant access to it of independent foreign doctors and representatives of international humanitarian organizations.

In addition, the resolution contains the requirement to immediately release all other citizens of Ukraine, illegally detained in Russia, including the Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov and the son of the leader of the Crimean Tatar Haiser Dzhemilev.
