Over 10 days of the Turin raincoat, more than 500 thousand pilgrims bowed

More than half a million pilgrims from around the world saw the original of the Turin raincoat, set for the first time in five years for public veneration in the San Jovanni Cathedral in Turin on April 19. This is stated in the information of the "Radio of the Vatican" .

The Turin raincoat is a piece of linen matter 4.42 with a length of 1.13 meters, on which in two projections the human body is depicted - ANFAS and from the back. The canvas, in which, according to legend, the body of Jesus Christ was wrapped after removal from the cross, can be seen until June 24. You can look at the shroud for free, but the registration on the website of the Turin raincoat Sindone.org or directly at the Palazzo-Di-Chetta reservation center (Piazza Castello) is required.

According to the Turin archbishop, most believers arrive from Poland, the USA, Southeast Asia and Latin America. In early May, a group of pilgrims from Russia is sent to Turin, RIA Novosti reports.

On June 21, Pope Francis will pray in front of the Turin raincoat. Pontiff called on Catholics to pray to this relic, so that "this gesture of respect helped everyone to discover the merciful face of God in Christ."

The organizers expect that in two months the shrines worship more than two million believers. To date, applications for visiting the cathedral have already been left by a million people.

The exhibition of the Turin raincoat was the third in a row in the 21st century: earlier it could be seen in 2000 and 2010. In the last century, the Turin raincoat was exhibited in 1900, 1933, 1978 and 1998.

Since 1984, the relic is owned by the Holy See.
