Maya Plisetskaya died

In Germany, the outstanding ballerina Maya Plisetskaya died at the age of 90. Her death was announced by the general director of the Bolshoi Theater Vladimir Urin, who was contacted by Plisetskaya's husband, composer Rodion Shchedrin.

The cause of death was a heart attack.

“The husband of the ballerina Rodion Shchedrin called me. She died of a severe heart attack. The doctors fought, but could not do anything,” Urin said.

• Maya Plisetskaya graduated from the Moscow Choreographic School in 1943, after which she was accepted into the troupe of the Bolshoi Theater. She quickly began performing lead roles in many of the Bolshoi's ballets. One of her most famous heroines is Odette-Odile in Swan Lake.
• Plisetskaya danced not only the classics, but also worked with many modern choreographers - ballets by Alberto Alonso, Roland Petit and Maurice Bejart were staged especially for her.
• Maya Plisetskaya married Rodion Shchedrin in 1958. Their marriage turned out to be a creative union: the composer wrote music for five ballets in which Plisetskaya danced - The Little Humpbacked Horse, Carmen Suite (a transcription of fragments of Bizet's opera), Anna Karenina, The Seagull, Lady with doggy." She did the last three herself.
• Plisetskaya - People's Artist of the USSR. She was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland of all degrees. Maya Plisetskaya was awarded the French Order of Arts and Letters, was the owner of the Prince of Asturias Prize, the Imperial Prize of Japan and many others.
