"Drummer" put up for bidding

The Moscow Competition Policy Department announced an electronic auction for the sale of the Drumber cinema, one of the oldest in the city.

According to Proficinema , the starting price of the Drummer is 559.9 million rubles.

The cinema equipped with the most modern equipment with a unique sliding ceiling was built with the house on the embankment according to the project of Boris Iofan and was opened in 1931. In the same year, a sound cinema was first shown in the “Hastens” - “Golden Mountains” of Sergei Yutkevich.

The cinema was not closed during the Great Patriotic War, in 1942 it was a show of documentary Leonid Varlamov and Ilya Kopalin “The Destation of the German Troops near Moscow”, which received the Oscar in 1943.

For many years, the "Drummer" remained the largest cinema of Moscow, his cinema hosted 1,500 people. The cinema was the venue for the Moscow International Film Festival.

In 1996, reconstruction was held in the building, a modern screen and a sound system were installed, the number of spectator places was reduced to 735.

In 2012, it became known that the founder of the Kandinsky Prize, the founder of the Breus Foundation International Cultural Fund, Shalva Breus is going to create a Museum of Contemporary Art in the building “Drumber”. In March 2015, Breus confirmed the intention to create a museum, explaining to RBC that Breus Foundation would take part in the auction in order to buy the cinema building and thus get “legal control over the situation”.

Since 2013, the cinema building has been under the jurisdiction of the State Budgetary Institution “Financial and economic department of the Moscow City Hall”.
