Finland turned the program for the adoption of Russian children

The Finnish charitable organization Pelastakaa Lapset Ry (“Save the Children”) announced the termination of activities aimed at helping in the adoption of Russian children in Finland. It is reported by Yle .

According to the organization, the process of adoption of Russians in Finnish families has already stopped. The reason for this was the law on genderly neutral marriages adopted in Finland. Despite the fact that the law will enter into force only in 2017, the Russian authorities see the danger that an adopted child can get into Finland into a same -sex family.

Russian legislation prohibits cooperation in the field of adoption with those countries where same -sex marriages are allowed, with the exception of states with which a separate adoption agreement is concluded. There was no such agreement with Finland.

According to the head of the international adoption department of Pelastaka Lapset Ry Irene Pyarhsinen-hentula, no child was adopted from Russia to Finland this year.
