Evgeny Gavrilov is a participant in the best Novosibirsk Shugaiz-Group FPRF and the Echotourist musical association , which is engaged in promoting indie music from Siberia. Recently, Echotourist has decided to engage in music on physical media - they will start with accessible cassettes. One of the first releases of the new label will be the solo mini-album of Evgeny Gavrilov, recorded under the pseudonym Dyad, is a beautiful, multilayer and detailed designed instrumental music located somewhere between dance electronics, Shugaiz and construction. Guitars, synthesizers, drums, processed by special effects of vocals, a clarinet and glovespil merge into a single stream - cold and fast, like Siberian rivers.
- What is the idea of this album?
-When I was just starting to make these tracks, I did not have any clear concept, but almost all tracks have metaphors about time. When everything was recorded, the name came to my mind, and the idea with birds gradually appeared. The concept has existed musically from the very first track - throughout the record there is a melodic leitmotif, repeating at different instruments, in different times.
- Why do you need a solo project? What are you doing in it that you can't do with the FPRF group ?
-The group in our case is some kind of mutual influences, no one dominates, we do not bring blanks to rehearsals to turn them into songs, everything is done here and now-this is probably collective creativity in its pure form. Dyad is only my thoughts and ideas, and both approaches to me are close.
- What's new with the Echotourist association ?
- Echotourist , one might say, is now coming to come to life again. We decided to change the approach a bit: we are still going to release music-our, our associates and just close to us in spirit, but now we will do some more physical publications, to begin with the cassette, and then it will be visible. Already now we have planned several excellent releases and events!
- What is happening today with Novosibirsk music?
- In Novosibirsk, not a lot of what is interesting to me personally, but what is starting to happen now, I like it more and more! I think that the rise of independent music is now noticeable everywhere, and our city is no exception: a certain Siberian identity is formed, and this is not even some special sound, but a common idea. The musicians here no longer want to be “Siberian Burial 'OM” or “Siberian Brian Ino”, they want to be themselves. Moreover, this applies not only to electronic music.
This fall in Novosibirsk and Krasnoyarsk there will be a festival organized by Goethe-Institute and curators of the Berlin festival CTM ; This, of course, will be a big event, and this is not the only thing we are waiting for in the next year!
Let's hope these events will help in the development of the local scene and we will hear more new names from Siberia and, in particular, from Echotourist .
