May 12 at 19:00 - open seminar of the research and educational project “Moscow. Places of memory "

Message: "Work on the" House on Bolshaya Sadovaya "project."

In March 2015, the museum of M. A. Bulgakov opened the exhibition “House on Bolshaya Sadovaya”, dedicated to the history of house No. 10. The apartment building in 1904 is known for its inhabitants and visitors - Mikhail Bulgakov, Pyotr Konchalovsky, George Yakulov, Fanny Kaplan, Vasily Surikov, Sergey Yesenin, Vladimir Mayakovsky and many others. However, the purpose of the exhibition and the research project, which is still ongoing, is the story about all the inhabitants of the house. The story of the everyday life of the profitable house both pre -revolutionary time and the Soviet period is the most important task of the project, the main character of which is the ordinary resident of the house. At the request of the seminar “Moscow. Places of memory ”The authors of the project will tell how they collected information in which archives they worked, how they were looking for the descendants of the residents and how the site dedicated to the history of the house is arranged.

May 14 at 18:30 - "Samizdat of Eastern Europe: Czechoslovakia case"

The International Memorial and the State Public Library of Russia, with the support of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Moscow, will hold the fourth meeting of the scientific seminar “From Censorship and Samizdat to the Law on Press”: “Samizdat of Eastern Europe: Czechoslovakia’s case”.

In the program, the Lecture of Martin Makhovets “The status of the underground in the Czech Society of the 1970s and the 80s and the specific significance of the underground culture”.

The concepts of “underground” and “underground” until today have no unequivocal definition in the Czech culture. Traditionally, the Czech underground is meant a community formed in the early 1970s around the rock band The Plastic People of the University . This community, which later joined the Czech dissident movement, included poets, musicians, artists, philosophers, essays, as well as the publishers of Samizdat of various directions and politically views - from anarchists, ultralery radicals and chiliasts to Christian traditionalists.

Martin Makhovets was born in 1956 in Prague. He studied English and Russian at the Faculty of Philosophy of Karlov University. Since the late 70s, he participated in the life of the Czech underground-he copied and distributed samizdat, in the late 80s he edited samizdat literature. Since the beginning of the 90s, he collaborated as an editor with various Czech publishers, in particular, to popularize previously prohibited, illegal literature. He gives lectures on the literature and culture of the underground, both in the Czech Republic and beyond. Some of his works are translated into foreign language

May 16 - “Days of the historical and cultural heritage of Moscow” and “Night in the Museum” in the memorial

On this day, a tourist program is planned (12:00, 14:00, 16:00 and 17:00) and film screening (19:00)

Excursions will be held both along the streets of Moscow and in the Exhibition Hall of Memorial. Among them, the traditional route “Topography of Terror” , covering the most important points related to the history of repressions in the vicinity of Lubyanskaya Square and Big Lubyanka, as well as a new walk in places, iconic for the life and work of Varlam Shalamov.

In the Memorial itself, a series of excursions in the exhibition “Right of Correspondence” will be held, where the history of the Soviet camp system is revealed through the brightest and most direct source - letters to relatives.

To participate in excursions, you need to register:
- “Topography of terror” - at 14:00;
- “Moscow Varlam Shalamov” - at 17:00;
- “Right of correspondence” : at 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00 - excursions for adults, at 17:00 - a tour for schoolchildren.
