Polonsky arrested in Cambodia

Russian businessman Sergei Polonsky was arrested on his island in Cambodia. This was announced on his Facebook page by lawyer Alexander Dobrovinsky.

“It is still unknown that the arrest occurred in connection with the requirement of the Russian authorities regarding its issuance to his homeland or for some reason in Cambodia. If this information is correct, then his former partner Mr. Nikolai Doroshenko, whom Sergei Polonsky accused of something very serious, wrote a statement to the local authorities and later contributed to his arrest, now he would definitely be released,” said Dobrovinsky.

However, the information about the arrest was denied by the current lawyer of Polonsky. The Russian embassy in Cambodia could not confirm it, Interfax clarifies.

Earlier, Alexander Dobrovinsky was a business partner and Sergey Polonsky, acted as his lawyer, but then the businessman said that his defender was involved in the theft of the Kutuzovskaya Mile complex. “He wasn’t just making efforts to protect my company - he stole my company and actually did everything to make me sit down for as long,” the entrepreneur said. After that, Polonsky chose a new lawyer.

On April 25, 2014, the Supreme Court of Cambodia refused to extradite a businessman to Russia. The judge substantiated the refusal that there was no agreement on the issuance of criminals between the countries.

Polonsky was detained by the Cambodian authorities in early 2013. The businessman was accused of beating members of the boat team on which he sailed. At first, Polonsky was under arrest, but then he paid compensation to the victims, they took the statements, and the Russian was released on a recognizance not to leave.
