The forest caught fire in the Trans-Baikal Territory after a long rumble, possibly associated with the fall of the wreckage of the Proton missile, TASS was told in the administration of Petrovsk-Zabaikalsky district. Presumably, in the territory of this region, the wreckage of the rocket launched from Baikonur should have fallen if they did not have time to burn in the atmosphere. There is no definite data on this subject. The press service of Roscosmos believes that the missile "almost completely" burned down. So far, the wreckage could not be found.

“The inhabitants of the village of Kharaus heard a rumble for ten minutes. It was a good, but the sky was clean. It seems like a dry thunderstorm. And then the forest caught fire. It was stewed. But they haven’t found any debris yet,” the district administration said. The fact of the fire was confirmed in the dispatch service of the district, however, it is believed that it is not connected with the fall of the Proton: “Three hectares are burning on the area. 17 people and 6 units of equipment participate in the extinguishing. The cause of the fire is the careless handling of the fire of the local population.”

According to the Ministry of Emergencies on Friday, 42 fires were raging in Transbaikalia on an area of ​​39.6 thousand hectares. 10 fires were eliminated. The day before, the Ministry of Emergencies and the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Defense were involved in the extinguishing. The State Forest Service reports data on the situation on the morning of May 16: 36 fires were recorded on an area of ​​43.3 thousand hectares.

Earlier it was reported that aviation was examining the border of the Trans-Baikal Territory and the Republic of Buryatia, including the territory of the Petrovsk-Zabaikal district, in search of fragments of the Proton-M launch vehicle.

A source in the missile and space industry told TASS that a helicopter of the Mi-8 Ministry of Emergencies of Russia flew out of the village of Hilok of the Trans-Baikal Territory to the place of the alleged fall of the wreckage of the Proton-M launch vehicle, which is located at about 130 km from this settlement.

The administrations of the Ministry of Emergencies and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Buryatia reported that there is no information about the fall of the fragments of Proton-M in this territory of the region. At the same time, loud sound cotton was heard today in Ulan-Ude at about 15:00 local time (10:00 Moscow time) in the southeastern side.

Information about the dead, injured or destruction as a result of the incident was not received.

Proton-M with a Mexican communication satellite started from the Baikonur cosmodrome at 8:47 Moscow time. An emergency situation arose at 08:56 Moscow time, a minute before the estimated time of the branch of the Breez-M accelerated unit. According to experts, the steering engines of the third stage of the rocket did not work. At the 498th second of the flight, an emergency shutdown of the engine occurred.

The sources indicated that for the same reason in May 2014, the Express-AM4 communications satellite was lost at launch.

The MexSat-1 satellite is made by the Ministry of Communication and Transport of Mexico by the American concern Boeing, it has a mass of 5.4 tons.
