Poroshenko equated the NKVD with the Gestapo

Petro Poroshenko called the GPU and the NKVD related structures with the Gestapo and the SS. According to the publication "112 Ukraine", the President of Ukraine stated this, speaking with a speech on the occasion of the day of memory of victims of political repression.

"The plague - it is the plague, regardless of whether it is brown or red!" - said Poroshenko, who visited the National Historical and Memorial Reserve "Bykovnyansky graves."

Poroshenko recalled that he signed the law on the ban on communist symbols, and called for "clearing Ukraine from the symbols of the regime, which destroyed millions of innocent people."

"Bykovnyansky graves are the most lively witness of communist terror, the most irrefutable proof of a crime against humanity, as large -scale as those committed in Katyn, Auschwitz, Babye Yar, on Solovki. Isn't the time to finally cleanse Ukraine from the symbols of the regime, which destroyed millions of innocent people?!" - said Poroshenko.

In April 2015, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a law prohibiting the symbols of the Nazi and Communist regimes, as well as the law on the disclosure of the archives of the repressive bodies of the communist regime operating in Ukraine. In addition, deputies recognized the Ukrainian rebel army and the organization of Ukrainian nationalists fighters for the country's independence. These laws were signed by Peter Poroshenko on May 15.

Bykovnyansky graves - the place of execution and burials of thousands of convicts in the line of Kyiv. The burials were discovered in 1962, but for a long time the official version stated that the victims of the Nazi regime were buried there. Only in 1989 did the authorities admit that these were the burial of the victims of the Stalinist repressions.
