The State Duma finally adopted the law on undesirable organizations

The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted in the third reading the law on undesirable foreign and international organizations. In accordance with it, organizations that pose a threat to the constitutional order, defense capability or state security will be banned in Russia. The decision to include an organization on the list of undesirables will be made by the Prosecutor General and his deputies.

“Today is such a period when it is impossible not to notice that some foreign organizations are not behaving in the best way. They do this for various reasons - some at the request of the intelligence services, others for some other reasons, ”explained Alexander Tarnavsky, one of the authors of the initiative.

• Violation of the law is punishable by a fine of up to 15,000 rubles for citizens, up to 50,000 rubles for officials, and up to 100,000 rubles for legal entities. Repeated violations within one year may result in criminal liability, up to imprisonment for up to six years.
• Fines and prison terms are provided for cooperating with undesirable organizations, as well as for distributing informational materials about them.
• Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, the largest human rights organizations, opposed the adoption of the law. They called the law draconian and repressive. Human rights activists expressed confidence that it is designed for selective use.
