
Detained Russian troops say that the purpose of their stay in eastern Ukraine is to monitor the enemy
The Security Service of Ukraine published a video of interrogations of two Russian troops detained in the Donbass on May 16. One of the prisoners seems to be Evgeny Erofeev and says that he serves in the Russian army as commander and has the title of captain. He stated that his group of 12 people arrived from Togliatti to the Lugansk region in early April and was engaged in intelligence.
The second detainee, Alexander Alexandrov, also states that he is the current soldier of the Russian Armed Forces, serves in the 3rd Guards Brigade of Special Forces, which is based in Togliatti. Aleksandrov said that he has been in eastern Ukraine since March 26. According to him, he crossed the border in the battalion of 220 people.
The detention of Erofeev and Alexandrov became known on May 17 . The Ukrainian military reported that prisoners are military personnel of the special forces of the main intelligence department of Russia and were detained during the battle by the city of the happiness of the Luhansk region. In Kyiv, they said that Erofeev and Alexandrov would be judged for participating in a terrorist organization.
The Ministry of Defense of Russia on Tuesday demanded the immediate liberation of Russian prisoners . The department said that young people really served in the Russian army, but at the time of the arrest were no longer listed in the armed forces. The Kremlin, commenting on information about the detention of Erofeev and Alexandrov, again stated that there were no Russian military in the east of Ukraine.
