The Sovetsky District Court of Bryansk placed the former governor of the Bryansk region Nikolai Denin under house arrest on Thursday in a case of abuse of power, Interfax reported , citing a source in law enforcement agencies.

This was confirmed on Thursday evening by an informed TASS source . “The court chose house arrest as a preventive measure for Nikolai Denin,” he said.

Earlier on Thursday, the Investigative Committee of Russia (ICR) charged Denin, who was dismissed due to the loss of the president's confidence, with abuse of power. The reason for initiating the case was materials received from the FSB.

According to the Investigative Committee, in December 2011 and January 2012, Denin, “acting for selfish reasons,” signed an order to allocate more than 21.8 million rubles from the region’s reserve fund for the needs of the Snezhinka company controlled by his family. The funds were allocated and spent under the pretext of eliminating the consequences of an explosion in one of the production premises, which occurred as a result of a violation of safety requirements. “This incident of a local nature was unreasonably regarded as an emergency,” the Investigative Committee emphasized.

Nikolai Denin is 57 years old. He became governor of the Bryansk region in December 2004. In September 2014, Denin was dismissed due to the loss of confidence of the head of state following an audit of the presidential administration.
