The German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the return to the “big eight” format is still unimaginable, since Russia does not comply with the basic principles of democracy and international law.
Merkel on Thursday performed in the Bundestag before a visit to Riga to participate in the Eastern Partnership summit.
According to her, the "large seven" is a community of common values. "This involves joint work in the name of freedom, democracy, and the rule of law. This means respectful attitude to the territorial integrity of other countries and their laws," Merkel said. The Chancellor of Germany noted that Russia's actions in Ukraine do not comply with these principles.
Russia was excluded from the Great Eight in 2014 in connection with the annexation of Crimea.
