Ex-governor of the Bryansk region was sent under house arrest

Former Governor of the Bryansk region Nikolai Denin, who is accused of abuse of powers, is imprisoned, RIA Novosti reports with reference to a source in the regional authorities.

“Today, the Soviet District Court of Bryansk has concluded an ex -governor for house arrest. The information is accurate. As I was told, it is,” the agency’s interlocutor said.

Denin previously stated that he did not agree with the charge against him. The Investigative Committee charged him with abuse of official position. The reason for initiating a criminal case was the materials of the FSB.

According to the investigation, in the winter of 2011-2012, Denin, acting from selfish motives, ordered to allocate about 22 million rubles from the reserve fund for the needs of the commercial organization controlled by his family-Snezhka OJSC under the pretext of eliminating the consequences of the explosion in one of the production premises that occurred due to a violation of safety precautions. This local incident, notes the investigation, was unreasonably regarded as an emergency.

In fact, the funds were allocated without legal grounds and were spent by the company for current financial and economic activities.

The first messages about the possible abuse of Denin appeared in the press with reference to sources in law enforcement in 2012.

Denin, who served as the governor of the Bryansk region since 2004, was removed by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin in September 2014 with the wording "due to the loss of confidence."
